Following ceci's icing boucher had the most intense look on his face, even for him.

A lot of talk regarding White. Does the 9 game rule apply to playoff games?

Interesting game. Phaneuf was an absolute warrior. He had the entire first line of the Bruins off their game. The Bruins can be a great playoff match up for the Sens.

Sens fans do not give enough love to Phaneuf for the role he plays, especially the space he offers for Karlsson. Hard to imagine that the Bruins would put all their frustration into Phaneuf and Ceci and let Karlsson off pretty easy. Did anybody even hit Karlsson all evening?

Yes playoff games are counted, but in White's case there is no 9 game rule for him because he will have signed his contract after age 20. If he signs a pro contract before the end of the year, year one gets burned whether he plays or not.

Completely agree, I think the overall contribution that Phaneuf brings is underrated, he's going to be a nightmare to play against in the playoffs.

I gotta say, that game worried me.

The Sens should have jumped all over the B's. Instead, it was the other way around, and for pretty much the entire night.

This team looks nothing like the team that won against all those top teams back in January. I know Stone is out, but one player shouldn't make a team like that (unless it's Karlsson obviously).

That's three poor games in a row and four of the last five. They deserved a better fate against Chicago and played really well, but Tampa, both Montreal's and last night were stinkers.

Let's hope this is just some late season fatigue setting in.

I'm still totally happy where they are and I'm not bashing at all. They've overachieved this season for sure. I'm just worried about how they seem to be trending.

Far too negative. I thought the game against Chicago was the best game of the year. And, Saturday night Karlsson hit the post in the last minute of regular play that would have given the Sens the win.

I don't know why they're haggling with this kid.....he'd likely be an instant upgrade over wingels or Kelly, and he's almost surely better than anyone we have in bingo.....so sign him and at worst he's the 13th forward.

with the recent history of NCAA players just holding out and becoming UFAs....I don't think Ottawa should be playing hardball here and risk losing him for nothing. the kid obviously knows, after watching all the trade deadline coverage, how much the sens covet him as a prospect......so IMO he holds the upper hand here. just (frank)ing sign him and get it over with.

I agree 100% But you know that's not the PD our the Ottawa Senators organization style to do this.... they will probably let him sit at home the hole summer and then Uncle Eugene will say something stupid about him to the media lol

I thought he had to play at least 1 NHL game for it to burn 1 year?! similar to what a lot of non-playoffs team do at this time of the year...
And I thought if he only played in the AHL for the end of this year, that it won't burn year one of the contract? I could be wrong and strictly be for under 20y players...

I agree on Saturday vs the habs, that was a great game, playoffs intensity and the Sens hit 3 posts during that game! the one on Sunday on the other hand...

I agree as well! can't hurt the team to have depth for the playoffs! give him a shot, can't be much worst then 3-4 other players on the team...he wants to prove he belongs, he'll be fresh as NCAA only play ~35 games or so... and if he does poop the bed, then you sit him...at least you would have given him a chance AND he'd be locked in a contract and you own his rights for 7+ years...

Sunday could have been a different game too if Price hadn't robbed Turris.

Thats why they want to sign him to the amateur tryout instead of his entry level contract. He could play in Bingo for the rest of the season and then sign his pro deal in the summer.

you dont have to worry about that for a while. I think he has 2 more years of NCAA eligibility and he might just want to go back to Boston next season if he cant get his pro deal now.

Really August 15th 2019 is the date you really need to worry about. Thats 2 years man, plenty of time

I'm not a big fan of this NCAA thing when player can just decide to stay in college and get to chose where they play after. Ala Vesey / Schultz... Am I the only one who think they should have no other choice then sign there first ELC with the team who drafted them, some kind of rule or something??

I think that would be a disaster to force people to sign, the NCAA is a mega organization they would not allow such a thing that would hurt the potential of recruiting.

Both the NCAA and CHL need to fix their eligibility issues. NCAA would have to allow for kids to sign their ELCs yet not lose their eligibility in school. Just bc they sign it early doesnt mean they are pro athletes, just that they are under contract as soon as they decide they want to turn pro. CHL needs to allow kids to play in the AHL as a 19 year old. If a kid is too good for junior, but not ready for the NHL, it doesnt help anyone.

If they start to tailor options for the draft prospects, then everyone wins.

Ottawa will never be successful with an owner like Melnyk. Does he still spend most of his Winters in his Barbados home ? Try Purchasing a Bobsled team Geney.

Really all this will mean is that the NHL shy's away from drafting NCAA players due to the risk..... just like they did with the Russian players
